Lido Pimienta, 1986- , Colombia.

Pimienta came to Canada in 2005, bringing with her the fusion of music skills she had been developing since the age of 11, when she started playing in bands. She is an Afro-Colombian and Indigenous artist, creating both music and visual art. Pimienta is frank in engaging political issues, and has collaborated with notable Canadian artists including A Tribe Called Red in producing politically-charged music. Her independently-produced 2016 album, La Papessa, won the 2017 Polaris Music Prize.
