Arthur Lismer, 1885-1969, England.
Lismer studied art in England and Belgium before immigrating to Canada in 1911 via Pier 2 in Halifax. He settled in Toronto, where he met some of the other artists with whom he would later found the Group of Seven. Lismer created art, particularly landscapes, in the Maritimes, in Ontario, and on Vancouver Island. He was also a leader in art education and a war artist known for his depictions of Halifax Harbour during the First World War.
